Question four

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation?

To create my advance portfolio, technology has played a rather large role, which resulted in my knowledge of how to use different technology to develop. Where as in my foundation portfolio, I was using basic technology to create my research, planning and evaluation and also my main product which was a music magazine front cover, double spread contents and also a double spread article. The two programs I used in my foundation portfolio was PowerPoint and also Adobe Photoshop. Whereas the advance portfolio allowed me to use various programs to create the products. One of the main programs we used was PremierPro, this is what we used to create our music video in. This was a program in which neither me or my other group member knew how to use, so to over come this we had to do research on the internet which meant either watching videos people had created to show you how to use this program or simply reading an article on the troubles we were having. After watching the videos and reading up information, I quickly learnt how to use this new program. The type of camera we used to capture our video was a HD camcorder.  We chose to use these type of camera because we wanted the best type of quality for our video and by using a HD camera it abled us to do this because of the quality of the camcorder. However when we wanted to do some shooting of our video, we didn't always have access to a HD camcorder, because of the shortage of them in the class. Parts of our video was also created using photoshop such as the mind bubbles, which are shown below.

To create the mind bubbles we have firstly chosen a simple mind bubble shape from the options gave to use by photoshop, we have have then used the fill bucket to fill the outside of the mind bubble with the same colour of the green screen, so that that we are able to use the chrome key to get rid of the colour around the mind bubble just so that we are left with the mind bubble.
To then get the image inside the mind bubble we have used the magic wand tool to delete the inside of the mind bubble so that the image behind the mind bubble will then be shown through the mind bubble.

To create our ancillary texts we used the program Photoshop, because we had used this program in our foundation coursework we both had a basic knowledge on how to use some of the tools that were available on the program. By already having this knowledge from the previous year it allowed us to transfer it into our advance portfolio to create our ancillary texts. Although I already had a basic knowledge on how to use this program, I also learned new skills on how to use the program.
I have also used media technologies when producing the research and planning. My research was created using the internet, because to present my research I have used a website called Blogger.com which allows me to upload, pictures and video's which allows people who view my blog to see these. I have also been using YouTube to be able to watch other music videos so that I can analyse them and gain an understanding of them and to also come up with my own ideas to discuss with my other group member.

Question three

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

To gain audience feedback we have asked some of our peers, to give advice on what they like and dislike on the video, we have also asked them to give constructive criticism.
From the video above we have learnt that we have been able to interest our targeted audience with out video and that they are able to relate to our video because they could be going through the same problems. We have also learnt that people are able to recognise what type of techniques we have used and they also like how we have used them and that it keeps them more interested in the video.
However we have also learnt that some people would like to see more of a performance based video because they think it will relate better to our genre of music because this is what you most commonly see with this type of genre of music which is 'Pop Rock'. However we thought it would be a good idea to tell a story within the video so that our targeted audience can relate to the situation that is happening in the video, and we have succeeded in this part well.

Question two

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?H
Both me and my group member Janna, feel that our main product and ancillary texts work well together because there are clear links between both the product and ancillary texts. One of the main reasons as to why they combine effectively is because we have used the same theme of confusion that men have during relationships. To do this we have created a mind bubble which is both in the video and on the poster and CD, the mind bubble in the video changes to images of different girls that the character in our video is thinking about, this is one thing that combines our main product anf ancillary texts because we have also put a mind bubble on the ancillary texts, with images of the girls from the video inside the bubble. The colours used in both our main product and ancillary texts are similar because in the video we have used colours such as red, yellow and green etc. to show envy and danger, we have also got hints of these colours on our ancillary texts because of the colours behind the title of the band on these and also the colours of clothing the girls are wearing in the images.

We have also linked the inside of the CD case to our main product by having an image of liquid flowing, we have done this because in the video we have got a falling glass with liquid in which is spilling everywhere. It also relates to our main product because of what the song is called which is 'Liquid Confidence'. is

However the person who is on the front of our digipak and poster, is not the character who plays the role in the video, but is the person who sings in the video, we have chose to do to this because it is most commonly known that the singer will be on the front over of the digipaks and posters because these are what the fans will be looking for and will recognise, so we have decided to do it this way so that our 'fans' recognise that this video goes with the singer.

Question one

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Within our media research, we have looked at the same and different types of genre of music to gain a full understanding of both conventions and forms of real media products, to be able to come up with ideas to put into our own music video.

Within our research we have looked at different types of genres, to be able to find out how they would portray a 'failing relationship' and boys of the age of 15 to 25 are confused as to what they want and who they would like to be in a relationship with. The video in which we got inspiration from is Taylor Swifts 'You Belong With Me', we have got ideas from this video because the boy character is confused as to who he want's to be in a relationship with, so this is a convention we would like to show in our video because it is problems in which our audience can relate with. Another convention we have taken from this music video is that it is most typically the girl who get's hurt and is left behind and this is portrayed quite well in Taylor Swifts video because the character who Taylor Swift play's is a girl in which likes the main boy character but because he is confused as to who he wants to be with, he leads Taylor on giving mixed signals but the result to this is her being the one hurt. By doing this it helped us to gain an understanding of how to entice our audience to watch our music video if they were going through the same situation. To show these things in our video we have video the main boy character thinking about other girls whilst around his girlfriend and her getting upset about this, but we have also filmed them when the boy is in love with his girlfriend but that he is also confused, because he is confused about his feelings and a result of this is basically leading the girlfriend into false pretence that the relationship will last.
Our fan base is both genders, who are teenagers to young adults. It also helped us to gain ideas for our video because of the age we are because, we could put in similar situations that had either happened to us or to people we know, by doing this it will help our audience to relate to the video more.

A convention we have stayed away from is having the singer also play the role of the main character, we have chosen to do this because we wanted our video to be concept based, so that it gives the idea of a failing relationship and that it will also make our audience think about how they could go about situations like this.

Our video could also be considered stereotypical because, of the boy being confused as to what he wants, because it is most commonly known for the men aged between 15 to 25 to be confused to what they want, because they want both, as in be in a relationship and to be free and to be able to do what they want with out being hold down to one women. To show this in our video we have filmed the male character thinking of other girl's, to show this we have got the male character looking thoughtful and then there is a mind bubble coming from his mind, showing that he thinking of other girls, but the one girl who keeps coming back into his mind is his current girlfriend.

Here is my group and mine final video, to 'Liquid Confidence' by You Me At Six

Evaluation of digipak

Digi Pak

Above is the final image of mine and my groups, inside of our digipak. The main image of the digipak is a photograph that myself and my other group member took ourselves, the photo is ink that we dropped in to water, so that it spreads in the water to create patters and swirls. We chose to have ink as our main image on the inside of the digipak because, we want it to represent the song title of 'Liquid Confidence' and by having the ink it represents this. We have chosen to have the image blocked out in mainly black because we wanted to create confusion when the audience look at this. We wanted to create confusion because in our video the main aspect is that the main character is confused as to what he wants, so we wanted to carry out the same aspect in this. We have then made the edges of the liquid glow a orange, yellow colour because we wanted it to represent, the colours worn by the girl actor in our video, which are warning colours. In our plan we was originally going to have the background plain white so that the main focus was on the liquid, but when it came to making the inside, we thought that with just the liquid it was creating enough confusion, so we have added in text behind it, however the text is lyrics taken from the other songs of the album. The Lyrics we have taken relate to our music video as well because they are mainly all about the boy actor being confused about how he feels and what he wants.

Here is the final front and back cover of mine and my groups digipak. The first thing you notice on the CD is the image of the male on the right hand side, we have done this because he is the vocalist in the song, so we want the audience to know that the album is his and the viewers will be able to recognise who he is because he would of been in previous songs of the bands, we have also chosen to give him a glowing white edge because it makes him stand out more which will catch the viewers attention more. The next thing you notice is the mind bubble which is coming from the vocalists mind, in the mind bubble is images of different girls, we have chosen to have images of different girls because we want it to relate to the theme of the song of being decided and always tempted by other girls. The reason for overlaying the images in the mind bubble is to create confusion, because it represents that the mind can be a confusing place and that it is very crammed with thoughts and wonders. The name of the band is in the middle of the front cover but to the right slightly, with an image behind it of liquid, we have chosen to put an image behind the text because we want it to once again relate to the song.

Poster planning

Poster planning

Above is a scanned image of mine and my groups planning for our advertising poster of our digipak. For our poster we have taken exactly the same idea from the front of our digipak and added it to our poster with out changing anything, we have chosen to do this because we want it so that when people see the poster they will remember it when it comes to finding the CD because they would of all ready seen it. On the poster under the band name and the name of the album we will have in a big bold text 'out now' to let our viewers know that our digipak is available in the shops. In the bottom left hand corner we have added the web address to the bands website, we have done this because it will make more people aware of how they can find out more information on the band and when new upcoming events will be occurring.

Poster research

Music magazine advertisement research

This poster is a poster to advertise All Time Low's
new album 'Put Up or Shut Up'.
With this poster the first thing that caught my eye was the striking green background because it is quite a vibrant green. By the advertisers doing this to the poster, it will automatically make the viewers look at what else is on the poster it's self. The name of the band is All Time Low and this is quite clear to the viewers because it is both at the top of the page in a bold black font with a glowing white edge, which makes it stand out even more, the name is also on the image in the middle of the page. Under the heading of the poster is the name of the album in which they are advertising, by them putting this under the name of the band, the viewers will instantly know that the album is related to the band. The main image of the hand and the type of packaging with in, is in a type of cartoon style, this is because in some of All Time Lows music video's they use cartoon animation to create images within the video, so by doing this it relates to the songs and videos that are on the album. One bad fault to this poster is that it doesn't look as if it is targeted at the right audience because 'All Time Low's' fan base is most commonly known as young teenage girls, where as this look's as if it's aimed more at teenage men because of the colour's used and also the imagery.

This poster is advertising one of Fall Out Boy's CD's, which has all their greatest hits on. The title of the poster is in a bold white text, I think they have done this because the background image is quite dark, so by having the white text on top it makes the poster stand out more because white is quite a bright clean colour. The image in the background doesn't really suit the genre of music that 'Fall Out Boy' play, because with this image you would think that the music would be dark and maybe to the genre style of 'metal' or 'hard rock', whereas 'Fall Out Boy' are more of a 'Pop punk' band. However there are objects in the image in which relate to the genre of music such as the tip of guitar which allows the viewers to know that they are a band that play instrument's. Unlike the other advertisement posters I am analysing, I think this one is the best one for advertising the CD because at the bottom of the poster there is some of the song titles in which are on the CD it's self which will persuade the consumers to buy the CD more if they know exactly what songs they will be getting on the CD.

This poster is advertising 'Biffy Clyro's' new CD 'Mountains'.
In this poster, I found a few different analogical representations. The first representation that I came across was the two lions fighting in the centre. There is a lyric in the song that is 'you tear us apart', which could be represented by the lions fighting. Also, the song appears to be about a faltering relationship, which again, is shown by the lions, and this could also mean that the two people have fiery and aggressive personalities.
Secondly, I noticed the mountain in the background. in the lyric 'I am a mountain', represents to me that the male singing the song believes that perhaps, in his personality, he has very sharp and rocky traits, meaning that again he can be aggressive and frontal. This could also mean that, metaphorically, he has a very large personality, and that it could be seen as overpowering.
Lastly, there is the sea as the main background. This could be representing how deep the relationship is. Moreover, this analogy could be meaning that, like the sea, the deeper you get into this relationship, the darker and colder it gets.
In conclusion, this poster is very effective. This is because that the most popular song in the commercial market is advertised on the cover, and therefore more people will be more inclined to purchase the album. I also feel that this poster is efficient, as at the bottom it lets any viewer know that the album is available in various forms, such as CD and download, which makes the album easy to obtain.

Digipak planning

Digi pak planning

Below are two scans of mine and my groups plans for the front and inside of our digipak.

Above is a plan of what the inside our digipak is going to look like. The idea that we have had for the inside of our digipak, is that we want it to be spilt liquid because we want it to relate to the title of the song we are doing the video for which is 'Liquid Confidence'. We want it to be spilt liquid because normally when you spill liquid it's a mistake, so we want the liquid to represent the mistakes that the main actor in our video will make because he is young. The colour we want the liquid to be is black because we want to show that inside the character is dark and mysterious and is always coming up with new cunning ways to hurt someone and black is a signifying colour of evil. We then want the edges to glow a red colour to show that there is a warning with in this as well, which we are trying to portray with in the video.

Above is a scanned image of mine and my groups planned front and back cover for our digipak. Our idea's for the front of the CD is to have an image of the singer who is in our video, so that when our viewers look at the CD they instantly recognise who the album is for. From this image we have got a mind bubble which will go above his head across the middle of both the front and back cover of out CD. The mind bubble is going to contain images of different girls, we have chosen to do this because it relates well to one of our ideas that we have for in our video which is a mind bubble which will show a line of girls, we have taken this aspect and put it on the front and back cover of our CD because we want to show the meaning of the song 'Liquid Confidence' which is that young people shouldn't be held down to one person and that they are going to make wrong decisions and mistakes. So by having the mind bubble of the girls it shows that the character is thinking of other girls and not just thinking of being with the same girl. We then plan to have the name of the band on the front of the page in a bold font with an image behind it of melting ink to once again relate the song. Then on the back of the CD we have got the track listing of the other songs on the album.

Digipak planning

Digi pak research

When you look at this digipak you can instantly tell what musician the CD is for because of the image of the artist on the front of the CD, by them doing this it allows the viewers to instantly recognise the album, instead of random images. However I find the colours of this CD rather dull and uninteresting to look at because it is just plain black and white, which may suggest to some viewers that the songs on the CD may be quite dreary and depressing.

This is also a recognisable digi pak because of the image of the musician on the front of the CD. The colours on the CD are also suited well to the genre of music because Rihanna's music is most commonly known as 'pop', so the bright red signify this well because the colours in 'pop' videos are mostly bright and vibrant. The colour red also suggests that the music might be seductive.

Filming Schedule

Filming schedule

When filming we needed to arrange a time and date that we could use our main actor (Tate) as he attends school at different times we needed to work around the times we all had free. Other days we will have free too film our other character Lily because she goes to the same school as us, so it is possible to film her easily, when we needed her.

13th Tuesday November

On this date we will film Jay playing the guitar and drums for our instrumental sections of the film

14th Wednesday November
On this day we will film Tate and Lily outside; they will play a couple and have an argument in several different ways to add a variety to the video.

28th Wednesday November
On this day we will film Tate falling, this part will be used for our video when we using the reverse recording technique so it looks like he is rising up from the ground and walking out.
5th Wednesday December
On this day we will set up the green screen and film the bar scene, crowd scene and the mind bubble scene together so that we because of needing to set up the equipment it will be easier to film all the stuff that involves the green screen in one day.
15th Saturday December
On this date we will be filming Jack singing the parts we want him to sing from the song. We chose this date because on the weekdays Jack works and is not able to come in during the week like Tate and Lilly could.

Storyboard

Storyboard

Props

Props
In our video we will use limited props because its common for rock/indie videos to have quite basic videos based on a story or a performance, the props we had in mind to use would be alcohol bottles and glasses as our video is based on alcohol giving you the confidence to do what you want a say things to people that you normally wouldn't, we had this idea of a falling glass in slow motion as when you see slow motion clips in videos you think of tragic accidents or emotional scenes and our video is full of different emotions that young adults and teenagers go through in their lives, so we thought it would be a good idea to show this in our video.

Costumes

Costumes

Tate-
Tate is the main character in our video, as he is the guy who we are trying to portray to the audience who doesn't want to be held down to one girl, as he is young and just wants to have fun. So for his costume we want him wearing smart 'indie' ware, we want him wearing this type of clothing because we want the costumes to also reflect the genre of song that the video is to, which is indie. By smart 'indie' wear we mean items of clothing such as tight black skinny jeans, with either a plain or chequered shirt with a type of jacket over the top, preferably a denim jacket, then for footwear we would like him to be wearing converse.

Lily-
Lilly is the character who plays the current girlfriend of Tate. The type of costume we would like Lilly to wear is either a dress or skirt with a blouse, we would also like these item's of clothing to always have either the colour red, yellow or green because these colours signify, danger, warning and envy. We would like her to be wearing these colours because of the way they are seen when people look at them, because they will hopefully instantly think that she is a dangerous person to go near to because she want's to be able to settle down, but Tate doesn't want this.

Jack-
Jack is going to be playing the part of the singer in our video, in our video we needed an element of performance because that's what is most commonly seen in 'Indie rock' music videos. The type of costume we wanted Jack to wear was simply either a black or white top because we didn't want him to come across as a main character, so we wanted him to just blend in and by him not wearing striking colours he wont stand out as much. However we would like him to have a bit of stubble because our audience is aimed at girls aged between 15-25, so by him having stubble they will instantly recognise him as the singer. Also with him having the stubble the viewers will instantly know that the video is for a 'Indie rock' video because this type of genre is most commonly known for looking rough and un-tidy.

On the left there is an image of the two characters in our video, the type of clothing that they are wearing in this, is going to be similar to what they are going to wear in the video.
We have chosen this type of clothing because to us it suits the type of clothing that we want them to be wearing.
For example the guy character is in skinny jeans, a hood and then converse, we have chosen this type of clothing style because it suits the genre of music 'indie'.
Then for the girl character we have got her wearing a read skirt because we want that sense of danger and warning coming across and red is the colour in which symbolises this well.

Locations

Locations

For one of our scenes in our music video we want a line of girls, which is set in a mind bubble, which we thought would look good if the background of the scene was full of empty space. So one of our ideas for a location was an open field, because it's a spacious location. We also chose to have this as a location because your mind is a big space in which is full of different types of ideas and imagination, so anything can be seen or could happen in this.

Another location that we thought would look effective is a busy crowd, so we have chosen a shopping centre which will be crowded with shoppers. We have chosen this for a location because we want the 'couple' in the video standing in the middle of the walking crowd. Then when we come to editing the video we will speed the crowd up, so that they are a blur either side of the couple, we have chosen to do this because we want the main focus to be on the couple, but we also want there to be a confusion type of feeling when the video is watched, and by doing the fast crowd effect, hopefully it will create this feeling.
We also would like part of the video to be filmed at a house party, so that we can film the male actor with a group or singular girl, so that it relates to the song, because to use the song is about being young and not being tied down to one girl the whole time. We would also like it in a house party scene because the song also mentions in a certain kind of way that you should drink to forget your problems. If this fails we would like to be able to film in a location of a bar, because this is the closest we could get to being able to create the same effect and scene.

On the left hand side me and my group have photographed one of the settings which is going to be in our video.
We have chosen this type of location because we wanted it to be a large space because it makes you feel like anything can happen because of being such a large space and it also helps the audience to focus on the main features which is going to be the couple.

Here is a copy of the letter which we sent off to the record company who own the song which we used for out media project.

Virgin Records Ltd
553-579 Harrow Road
LONDON

Dear Virgin Records,

I am writing you this letter to ask if it would be possible for my group to use your song Liquid Confidence in our A level media coursework, to put towards a music video. The music video we will be doing will not be copying the current video for the song, as we have come up with new ideas, so we was wondering if we could use the song.

Yours sincerely

Janna McCann and Nicole Steer

In the letter we have stated which song we intend to use and what we will be using it for so that the record company are clear on our intentions for the song. The reason for sending this letter was to let them know we will be using it so that we are not blamed for copy right.

Pitch

Planning
Before we could start any of our planning me and my other group member decided it would be a good idea to pitch some of out idea's for our music video to the rest of our class member.

To present our ideas to the class we put our work into a PowerPoint because we believed this was the most effective way to put our ideas across. So below are some of our slides from out PowerPoint. There is also a link the our chosen song and their original video.

By pitching our ideas to the class it has helped us to gain a better understanding on how to interest our targeted audience of young adults. We was able to gain a better idea of this because our peers in our calls are an age of young adults so they were able to tell us exactly what they would like to see in our video and what they think would look good etc. It also helped us to gain a better idea on how to dress the characters and how certain colours that they could wear could help signify different feelings and warnings.

Representation

Representation

A good music video that shows good representation is Taylor Swifts 'You Belong With me' because in the video she plays a typical geek/nerd who is in the school's band. At the beginning of the video her and a popular football player from her school exchange notes from each other rooms, her note simply says 'you okay?' this shows that she is a caring person and by doing this it will make people who are watching the video believe she is a caring person and they will want to carry on watching the video to see what happens. Towards the build up of the chorus, the lyrics simply say 'she wears short skirts I wear T-shirts' this is discussing the representations of one of the characters in the video. Also by these lyrics it allows the audience to think that he doesn't like her because she doesnt wear short skirts, so she thinks the football player is only attracted to the character in the video who acts and dresses in a 'sexy' manor. Later on in the video the lyrics go 'she's cheer captain and I'm on the bleacher's', which could mean that she is unpopular in the school and that she also thinks she could never be as popular as the cheerleader. During this scene as well the cheerleader is seen to be 'flirting' with another character in the video, this representing that she is two faced and has no respect for her and her relationship with the football character. In the next couple of scene's the geeky Taylor Swift transforms into a princess because she is going to a party to try and impress the football player. When she arrives everyone is shocked by how pretty she looks, also in this scene the representation of the 'sexy' cheerleader carry's on because she is wearing a dress that exposes most of her body.
To show representation in my video I am going to show the typical feelings that people feel when being in a relationship, which is normally 'love' but that it can also lead to confusion and heartbreak. To do this me and my group are going to tell a story of a couple who are in love, but the guy isn't sure that he wants to be tied down to one girl, so is constantly thinking about other girls.

Voyeurism and Exhibitionism
Voyeurism is something in which desires people to look in to something that they shouldn't look at, but cant resist the temptation, such as looking into some ones deepest darkest secrets or by simply intruding in their personal/private space such as their bedroom. Exhibitionism has a similar meaning but it means that people have the desire to act in a certain way to attract peoples attention. A good an example of exhibitionism in the Taylor Swift video above. is how the cheerleader acts, to get attention from certain people, this meaning she will act in a certain manner and wear certain parts of clothing such as 'short skirts' and by her doing this she is showing exhibitionism. In our video this would be an important factor because we want to be able to show a story, we want our audience to want to know what is going to happen next between the characters in our video.

Intertexuality

Intertexuality
Intertexuality is basically when something is borrowed from an existing piece of work and adapted slightly into another piece of work. A good example of this is Robert Palmers 'Addicted to Love' and Shania Twain's 'I Feel Like A Women'

As you can see from the two photos above, intertexuality has been used, because Shania Twain's copied Robert Palmers idea of having a band behind her like he does as well, however she has changed it slightly by having male band members where as Palmers has female band members.

Twain's has changed the females to males in the video because one she doesn't want to simply copy Palmers, but she does want the same idea of enticing a wider range of audience and to me she has done this because it will attract both males and females, males because of the style of clothing she is wearing and then females because of the style of the males in the background.

Other videos of the same genre

Other videos of the same genre

When looking the different types of music videos I found many different types of conventions depending on the different types of genres. When looking at the different types of genres of music, I have managed to develop an understanding of what certain genres of music will expect from their music videos. The type of music videos that I will be looking at will be helping me to gain an understanding on how to be able to portray my genre well which is 'Pop rock'. So I have chosen to look at three different types of genre's which will be pop, indie and rock.

Pop-
Beyoncé- Single Ladies

Music videos that are the genre of pop are normally performance based, with the singer lip syncing to the song, as well as performing either a dance or acting out a narrative based video which tells the story of the lyrics which will create more meaning. Mainly in pop music videos the music artist and either the backing dancers or extras will be wearing something that is in fashion as of when the music video came out. The overall colours of most pop music videos will be bright, with both the tone and hue being very bright. However if the lyrics of the song are quite sad then the tone and hue will be brought down slightly so it isn't as bright. In pop videos the main artist always appears in the video in one shape or form, because they are the main part of the song and will be the one to sell the video to the audience. One of the aspects that I will take away from this pop music video is the form of having a main character through out the video, because they are what will sell the video in the long run.

Indie

The Vespers- Will You Love Me
Indie music videos normally have a large amount of conventions, for example the hue of the video can be dark, bright or simply black on white, they do this depending on what the lyrics are based on. Indie music videos are both performance based or narrative based when it comes to the music video however it is normally split equally between the two, meaning the video will show the singer or band for a short while before cutting back to the story of the lyrics. However sometimes in Indie music videos the band or singer wont appear in the video at all, allowing the whole video to be narrative based. Indie narrative based videos are normally quite arty and abstract rather then spelling out the lyrics.

Rock

Biffy Clyro- Many of Horror

When looking at different rock videos I have been able to learn some of the different types of traits used in this genre of music. For example the hue of the videos are normally quite dark but with high contrast levels, to give the video and overall look of darkness and to give it a unique and edgy tone. Rock music videos are normally always performance based, with the camera always focusing on someone from the band either singing or playing their instrument. Narrative music are also used within rock videos, but will also contain many shots of the main singer/ band playing. The story lines of these videos will mostly be dark and serious to match the tone and style of music and also the dark lyrics that are usually sung. The editing of rock videos are normally fast and snappy passed, to keep up with the edgy tones of the instruments used in the songs.
