Performance based

Performance based music video
Foo Fighters- The Pretender

This is a music video to the song 'The Pretender' by the Foo Fighters, the video was produced by Gil Norton and directed by Sam Brown. The video it's self is both a performance and concept based video, but mainly a performance based video, we can tell this because the video is mainly of the band performing with their instruments and singing into the mic, but it could also be seen as a type of concept type video because towards the end of the video the band are charged by riot police, which to me is a bit random and doesn't go with the lyrics of the song. By them doing this as a performance based it allows them to get across more feeling and emotion because it allows us to watch them more closely and to watch their expressions change when the song changes. By doing this as a performance based video it also promotes them more as a band, because it lets the viewers of the video take in the faces of the band members and by doing this it will help people to remember them more when they are in any other video. At 1 minute 23 seconds, the song becomes more hard and forceful and you can see the change within the bands movement and expressions as, both the singer and drummer look like they are straining to sing and drum, also at this part of the song a riot policemen enters the scene opposite the performance of the band, I think they have put this part in the video because when you see a policemen it normally means there is going to be trouble and it fits in well because the song speeds up and becomes more hard. But towards the end of the video it becomes more concept based because what is happening in the video does no go with the lyrics at all. Within the video there is also a lot of camera movement, by doing this it keeps the video more interesting because although it is just a performance based video, it will show you more of how the performers feel because the camera is constantly moving around showing each member of the band. The editing of the video is also very fast paced because they want the editing to go along with the beat and pace of the song. After watching this video I have gained an insight on how I would like my editing to look like and how I would like it to fit in with the beat of the song and that the cut's to different scenes go along with the beat.
